The City College of New York was founded 1847 as an institution of higher education that provided free access to its students the body of which was drawn from all strata of society. While times have changed and tuition is now charged, to this day it remains a very modest fee in addition to many extensive support programs that continue to allow students to attend CCNY for free or with greatly reduced costs many of which are the first in the family to ever attend college.
CCNY is also one of the most diverse colleges in the country. On campus over a 100 different languages are spoken with students coming from all corners of the world. CCNY currently accommodates a student body that is over 16000 strong, which contributes to City University of New York’s overall student count of over 264,000 students. CCNY is considered by many as CUNY’s premier or flagship institution(the only public school to offer engineering, architecture, and biomedical programs) and the only CUNY institution to administer many (13) of its own graduate programs granting PhD degrees.
